Tara and I have known each other for a few years now through mutual friends, and I have taken pictures for several of her friends' families. I couldn't have been more excited when she contacted me and asked me to take Maverick's newborn portraits! I was also thrilled that she and Rick wanted to be in some of the pictures too. I had such a fun time with them and sweet Maverick - they are clearly a beautiful and blessed family!

I have been looking forward to baby Grant's arrival for quite some time now, because I knew it meant a chance to photograph one of my favorite families again. He finally got here just in time for Christmas, so my sister and I spent the morning at the Weaver house getting introduced to Grant and of course, hanging out with his awesome big sisters. Addison and Avery have the best personalities, and I'm so happy for them to have a baby brother! The three of them already remind me of my siblings and I, so they (and their parents) are in for an exciting ride :)
I had the pleasure of working with these two adorable girls while it was still warm out last fall, and after a fun couple hours together, they decided they wanted to come back for more this Christmas. We explored the trees in Hotel Roanoke, played in the footbridge over downtown, and spent some time at the new Center in the Square building. Chasing them around, watching them play, and seeing how they love each other was the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon during break - and I think these images show it.
As I mentioned on my Facebook page, I am forever indebted to this family because they are essentially why this business came to be and flourished in the first place. When Nick was born, Shelley asked me to take newborn pictures because she knew I had a nice camera. Unfortunately, having a nice camera doesn't mean you know anything about photography...and I will admit I did not know anything back then besides the crash course I gave myself on Google before heading over to her house that day. Well, people liked what Nick and I came up with, and since then it has been an incredible journey, from reading my camera manuals to a million more Google crash courses to weddings to internships to several years of pure experience. An incredible, crazy, hard-to-believe-it-even-happened journey. But I can't say I hate it.
