I am way behind on the blog. New York has kept me busy, to say the least! Busy in a good way though, because I am learning so. much. I have watched my wedding photos improve from the first one I did with Ryan in June to the one I did two days ago, and I can't believe they were even taken with the same camera. I'm planning to post wedding by wedding - but I have a feeling the city may distract me before I get that done :)

I know I'm about a month late, but happy first birthday to the little man who started it all!!
In just one year, I grew as a photographer, an artist, and even a business-woman. In one year, I bought two new lenses and upgraded from my trusty little Rebel to a Mark II. I photographed weddings. I read both of my cameras' manuals. I grew the courage to show my work to several professionals. I got an internship in New York City. In one year, I found myself in a way. I fell in love with this industry and I hope I never fall out of it.

I've decided that above all else, I prefer to photograph people. I like capturing emotion. There is not much emotion in a brick wall or a river. There is emotion in a laughing child, a mother looking at her newborn, a bride surrounded by her bridesmaids.
So last week, when I had to do a project describing Giles County in pictures, I was challenged. I had to find that emotion I can so easily pinpoint in a living, breathing human being. And I think I did - but I won't say it wasn't tough and I won't say I didn't get discouraged (see previous post for the images).
Then I started looking back at some old pictures and realized I had been getting good shots of buildings, objects, and the like long before I started really working with people. This is what I practiced on, before people came into the picture. The difference is that back then, I didn't think about it quite so much. Just like I don't think too much into snapping people now.
Stop thinking about it. Just do it. Lesson learned.
